In-Person Instruction
“I couldn't have asked for a better experience or outcome from an in-person, tutored build. I had a project in mind for Christmas but wasn't sure if it was practical. Whether the wood I wanted to use was suitable or the timescales feasible. Turns out it was... At least with the help of Vic and Andrea.” - Michael B
Projects from the Minimalist Woodworker Review
“I have recently discovered you. Have enjoyed your Youtube videos and have purchased your two latest books. Thanks for putting together the new book with projects. It is a great way to develop some hand tool skills. I imagine it is a lot of work to put this book together but hope you will eventually produce another one. I am working on my second dovetail box today. Each box took a full day but were really enjoyable. Please thank Vic for the project book. The violin knife is next. I just discovered the woodworking courses offered on your website. I see it in my future” - Michael V
Tormek & Online Classes
“I've had the fortune of being a VTW customer for about a year now and can't recommend them enough to fellow woodworkers. From their store I've picked up a Tormek, which has changed my life for getting consistently great results from hand tools. I've also got some finishes and Hock blades. Vic has a knack for simplifying things. In his classes, I've built a bow saw and a hand plane, which I didn't think would be possible as a relative beginner. Vic creates a friendly and inviting atmosphere. In the web-based classes, the groups are kept small so I've never had a problem jumping in and asking questions. He covers both hand tool and power woodworking too, which is a cool way to round our your knowledge” - Jonathan
Online Classes
“I have taken a number of webinars with Vic. All of them have been really helpful and have helped me to level up my wood working skills. Vic does a great job of demonstrating techniques in a clear and often entertaining fashion. I have found having access to the recordings that he provides is invaluable. Vic is also extremely helpful answering email questions after the sessions are done. I look forward to taking more of his webinars in the future” - Paul
Online Classes
“Vic provides a teaching style that is down to earth, removing the faff and focusing on the essentials and this class was no exception. The other great thing about this was the interaction between all the students and seeing everyone's project coming to life, each of them unique and amazing in their own way. Vic is also not only a great teacher but also a great supporter of its students and was always available to answer any question we post to him. Will definitely be back for more classes.” - Bruno
Online & In-Person Instruction
“The Zoom class setting allows you to work in your own shop while still receiving a high quality of interactive instruction. The format of training allows you to attend a class, then advance your own project during the week while still being able to ask questions via an online chat system. The chat system also allows students to work in a collaborative format exchanging progress photos and questions. Many thanks to Vic for his high quality instruction and encouragement and for keeping the whole process fun.” - Peter
Online & In-Person Private Instruction
"Doing private lessons with Vic has fundamentally changed my knowledge base and approach to woodworking. I knew I wanted to get more into using hand tools, but was intimidated and overwhelmed with the amount of information in books and on the internet. I started out with a couple of Vic's webinars and was quickly attracted to his thoughtful, no-nonsense approach combined with his sense of humor. When I reached out to start individual lessons, I was worried being virtual would limit the number of projects we could do together, but Vic has taught me everything from sharpening, to squaring wood with hand planes, to different approaches to design and joinery - and all on Facetime. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Vic as an instructor. Our lessons are often the highlight of my week!" - Rachel
In-Person Private Lessons
“Thanks again for the great dovetail lessons! It was a pleasure to spend a few hours in the shop with Vic and see how things are done. I feel like I finally understand dovetails, and also learned a ton of other woodworking tips” - Dave
Online Classes/Project Builds
“I thought I would send a couple of pictures from the Stickley table project. One is the finished table and the other one I am cutting the top with the bow saw from an early class/project with Vic. Looking forward to more classes/projects this year” - Mark
Online Dovetail Box Class
“Just wanted to reach out and tell you how much I enjoyed the dovetail classes! Love the small class size, Wish it could have been in person but these are the times we are living in ... however the “commute time” was so easy, Good pace, Great content and conversations, Amazing group of people, and Vic is engaging, funny and thorough (excellent speaker qualities)…not easy when we’re all on mute” - Pauline
Online Sharpening Class
“I have taken a few of your online webinars, and I just wanted to shoot you a quick note to let you know how helpful they’ve been! After your sharpening class, I re-flattened my chisel backs and resharpened (I had a set of water stones that I just wasn’t using to their potential). I got my chisels what felt like a hundred times sharper. I always thought people were exaggerating about how easy it is to work when your tools are sharp, but now I know you’re not! Anyway, just wanted to say thanks for sharing your knowledge and experience in these webinars” - Charlie
Learning Online Experience
“Andrea, thank you for making this so easy to take part in. I do a lot of what you do in my job and it's the little details like making sure people have clear instructions on how to dial in to zoom, the right time, and all the other administrative details laid out that make an event like Saturday's go off without a hitch. So thank you!” - Mike
Online Classes
“Vic has a rare talent for teaching woodworking in an inspiring, engaging, and openminded manner. The recent project-based webinar I completed helped me to get started and then quickly complete the project, and it provided all the information and help I needed along the way. So many questions and potential issues involved in the build were anticipated and addressed in Vic's expert teaching. And I gained much from the opportunity to ask questions individually and during webinar sessions, both in receiving spot-on answers to my questions and through hearing about the experiences of others in the group. For me, this is a great way to learn skills and to connect with a supportive online community of woodworkers. I look forward to future VTW webinars!” - Greg
Online Classes
“Two Hours Well Spent! Vic’s seminars have taken woodworking to an entirely new plane (pun intended). I have taken many woodworking seminars over the years. They have all been excellent. But these were in the early stages of my apprenticeship where acquiring the basic skills through hands on experience were of the essence. One can take all the seminars in the world, buy all the books, and binge YouTube videos, but it will not improve your manual dexterity, that can be only acquired through practice in the workshop. Vic has done something very different and important. He is offering seminars to those that want to gain the understanding of how to take their basic skills to the next level. What makes his seminars different than watching YouTube videos is the interactive nature and ability to ask questions in real time. It seems like something so little, yet it is something major. In addition, and key for me, it allows me to use the equipment in my shop in a real time setting and see how I will take the knowledge and manually practice afterwards” - Bryan
In-Person Learning
“I very much enjoyed my class with you Vic. I learned a great deal and appreciated your style of engagement and instruction. Vic helped me sort out some issues related to sharpening plane blades and hand plane set up. As well, got some really good insights into how to tune up my bandsaw. The opportunity to be in the shop allowed me to ask more questions about choice of tools, shop layout and so on. Much better than my childhood piano lessons!” - Tom
