Mentorship

If you’re looking for a bit of guidance, some honest advice, or help sharpening your woodworking game, I’m here for that.

Woodworking can feel like a big world when you’re just starting out, or even when you’ve been at it for years. Sometimes you just need someone to talk things through with — ideas, shop layout, tool choices, or design questions. Maybe you’re not sure which wood to use, or you just want another set of eyes on your project. That’s where I come in.

I offer one-on-one mentorship for anyone who wants to grow their woodworking skills, whether you’re brand new to the craft or looking to refine what you already know. I’ve been lucky to teach and learn alongside woodworkers from all over, and I’m always happy to share what I can.

Online Mentorship

If you can’t make it to the shop, we can connect through FaceTime or Zoom. You log in from your workspace, I log in from mine, and we’ll get right into it. Many of my students use this option from as far away as New Zealand, the west coast or as close as Toronto.

In-Person Mentorship

If you’d rather learn hands-on, come by my shop. You can try out tools, test techniques, or just sit down for a chat about your woodworking questions. It’s a relaxed and welcoming space where we can focus on what you want to learn. My shop is in Stoney Creek, Ontario, Canada.

Some Common Mentorship Topics:

  • How to get started with woodworking

  • How to set-up a shop based on your space, limitations, woodworking goals, etc.

  • Hand tool and machine advise

  • Health and safety considerations - using hand and power tools safely, dust collection, eye and ear protection, etc.

  • Furniture design

  • Creating woodworking plans and cut lists

  • Wood technology

  • Any other woodworking topic you can think of (if it’s not my specialty then I can likely recommend an instructor that will suit your needs)

How To Get Started

It all starts with a message. Use the form below to tell me a bit about your woodworking experience, what you’d like to learn, and what you’re hoping to get out of a mentorship. I will then schedule a short video chat so we can meet, talk through your goals, and make a plan that fits your needs. Once we have a plan in place, we’ll figure out how many sessions make sense and go over the pricing so you know exactly what to expect.

Once we’ve got a plan, I will help you book your session and handle the details. I want this to be a relaxed and positive experience. Learning something new shouldn’t be stressful — it should be fun, engaging, and something you look forward to.
